Evanston Grows (EG) envisions a community where every resident has access to fresh, locally-grown food, fostering health, sustainability, and social equity.
Evanston Grows, along with our partners and supporters, builds food sovereignty and community resilience in Evanston through urban agriculture, education, and community engagement, transforming vacant lots and underutilized spaces into vibrant, productive gardens and farms.
Mission: Evanston Grows is a collaborative non-profit organization whose mission is to increase healthy food access, promote food literacy, and advance health equity by building a local fresh food system that is more just, sustainable and resilient.
Board of Directors Commitment
Advocate for EG and its mission to increase food access by promoting local food production to combat food inequity and foster community building.
Attend bi-monthly evening board meetings and an annual Board Retreat in November (5-hour commitment on a Saturday or Sunday).
Commit to serving on the board for a minimum of 2 years, with a preference for a 3-year term.
Make a donation of any size to ensure 100% board participation in donations within a calendar year.
Leverage personal and professional contacts to enhance awareness and support for EG.
Facilitate connections between EG staff, volunteers, and potential partners, including individuals, businesses, and organizations that can further EG's mission.
Open Board Positions:
Financial Expert
Proficient in nonprofit financial structures.
Experience in nonprofit accounting, grant tracking, and auditing.
Legal Expert
Expertise in the legal frameworks for nonprofits.
Experience in drafting bylaws, procedures, and protocols for emerging nonprofits in Illinois.
